7 Reasons Why Quilted Table Runners are the Unsung Heroes of Gift Giving!

The holidays are coming and that means you’re going to need some gifts!

And this year in particular I think the season of gifting and doing kind deeds is even more important than ever.

I’m not sure whether Christmas will mean time with family or continued self-isolation as lockdown persists here in Montreal. Hopefully, you and your family are staying safe and healthy.

2020 has definitely thrown us some challenges and not being able to see and be near family has been a key challenge.

Whether we can celebrate in person or not, I’m really loving the idea of still gathering around the table virtually. In which case, your table setting is going to be key in setting the mood and upping the hygge factor.

An easy way of tackling that is through your table linens, and what’s not to love. But if you want to take it up a notch and make it even more personal, then consider a quilted table runner.

7 REASONS WHY QUILTED TABLE RUNNERS MAKE A GREAT GIFT

In case you’re not quite ready to jump on the quilted table runner bandwagon, I’ve rounded up 7 reasons why quilted table runners make a great gift.

In no particular order, here they are:

  1. It’s table art! Whether enjoyed during a meal or left as a decorative centerpiece, quilted table runners are fiber art for your dining table, sideboard, buffet, entry table, console…the list goes on!
  2. You can personalize them to the taste of the recipient.
  3. They’re reusable so the giftee will get to enjoy it for years to come.
  4. They don’t require a lot of fabric. In fact, you probably have what you need to make one sitting in your stash this very minute 😉
  5. You get to quilt without committing to a full-on quilt, which means it will be wayyyyy quicker.
  6. You can easily quilt this yourself on your domestic sewing machine (no quilt wrangling involved).
  7. You can easily add some hand quilting (and benefit from the calming effects hand quilting offers).

Plus, who doesn’t love a handmade gift?

QUILTED TABLE RUNNER INSPIRATION

Now that you know why you should make one 😉 Here are some modern quilted table runners to get you inspired to make and gift your own.

MODERN AZTEC

I have a love for the Modern Aztec table runner, probably because it’s the first one I designed! But also because she’s just so versatile. Here are a few I’ve made:

SONATA

Romantic and girly. Amy has a knack for designing whimsical prints that are perfect for romantics at heart! I love the combo of the delicate fabrics with the bold and graphic Modern Aztec pattern.

FANTASY

I designed this one for my mum’s birthday last year and she ended up featuring it in her New Year’s Eve dining table décor! Love that!

HOLIDAY

This was my take on a holiday table runner at the time! It has Scandi folklore vibes but with a modern twist.

SHATTERED STAR

This is my most recent quilted table runner make as the pattern was just released last month. While the greens could totally pass for a modern holiday theme, this one really conjures images of Springtime! I guess that just means it’s a twofer! Pattern available in the shop.

FIGURE EIGHT QUILTED TABLE RUNNER

I made this one during my stop on Emily’s *Modern Quilts Block by Block book tour. It was featured as the Figure Eight quilt and I just customized it into a table runner!

KALEIDOSCOPE PEAKS & VALLEYS

I’ve always loved this one and was super sad to part with her. But she was a commission for Quilt Market, so it was inevitable 😉

HEXED QUILTED TABLE RUNNER

This one evolved from a small idea and this is where it ended up. I love it, but it took me FOREVER. That could be because I attached the hexie panel with needle turn applique and I’m just the slowest hand stitcher. Was it worth the end look? 100%! Would I do it again? Yes, but with a different approach 😉

I hope this round-up of quilted table runners has inspired you to get quilting and create some handmade holiday quilted love for your friends and family. After all, nothing quite says you care like gifting something you made.

Happy quilting!

xo,

Shannon
