Story Behind the Striped Pine Quilt Block

If you’ve been around here for a little bit or attended one of my lectures, workshops, or trunk shows, then you know I love a good stripe.

I don’t know what it is about that classic design, but it gets me. Every. Single.  Time.

This probably explains why I found a way to incorporate them in quilt block format – ha!

I’ve mentioned before that we’ve got a plethora of pine trees here in Quebec, and while many look the same, there is enough variety to keep the landscape interesting. This is why I wanted to also challenge myself to design different tree options to represent tree diversity.

From a quilting perspective, I thought it would be fun to incorporate the stripes for some fabric play! You could have fun stitching up a bunch of these and featuring different stripes in each of your pine tree blocks for an adorable modern quilt option!

Top Tips

When piecing your strips together, alternate the direction in which you piece them together.

Why would you want to do that?!

It helps prevent the center of your strip sets from bowing. Give it a try and see what impact that has!

Caution

Things can get wonky real quick when adding your piece D to the sides of your canopy.

Pinning your sides in place can help keep things from shifting and stretching out on you.
