Making time for creative time!
Did you color as a kid? I certainly did! It was one of my favourite past times growing up.
I can still picture sitting on the floor at the coffee table my dad built with my Prismacolor crayons all nicely sharpened and stacked in color order in their cute little red box (remember those?!)! I spent hours colouring as a kid and it still sparks happy memories just thinking back on that time.
Fast forward to present day, where coloring hasn’t been high on my radar. Art and painting have been, but colouring in a book, not as much!
That all changed when I had the idea of spreading the joy of trees to little ones in the new Little Forest Coloring Book for Toddlers!
You know my love for colour and trees, so I figured I’d combine them in one fun activity! It’s also my way of encouraging kids to fall in love with all the beautiful trees mother nature has graced us with.
Challenges of coloring when young
One of the challenges I remember experiencing when drawing when I was younger, was the challenge of staying within the line. Nowadays, my aging eyes pose a different challenge for staying in the lines, but as a kid, I have vivid memories of wanting to stay within the line but finding it hard.
That’s why the Little Forest trees are so perfect for little hands. The large shapes make it easier to learn to color within the lines. There’re a few more detailed trees to help encourage kids to fine-tune their coloring as they gain more experience!

Coloring book features
While designing my first coloring book, I spent some time doing research on coloring book features (who knew there was such a thing!). Here’s what I learned and opted to incorporate in the Little Forest Coloring Book for Toddlers:
- Large shapes – easy for little hands.
- Bold dark outline – easy for little ones to see and follow.
- No image on the reverse side of the page – this makes it easy to frame your little one’s art!
- 24 adorable trees to add fun to the learning process.
- “This book belongs to” section – so they can claim their little coloring book!
- The coloring book is 8.5″ wide x 11″ tall.
- Plenty of geometric designs – making for a fun way to learn basic geometry shapes!
What are the benefits of coloring?
Did you know that coloring is not just a fun pastime, but also one that promotes health benefits too?!
Not only has it been shown to reduce stress, but it also promotes mindfulness, and it helps relax the fear center of your brain.
Being exposed to color has a positive impact on a child’s brain by influencing their emotions and their creativity.
Playing with color can help your child differentiate between colors and shades, and can help with their sense of spatial awareness.

Things you’ll need to color in your new Little Forest Coloring Book
You don’t need much to settle in for a coloring book session, but I’ve found it to be enjoyable to have a few coloring tool options on hand to keep the boredom at bay, and to allow me to mix and match!
Little Forest Coloring Book for Toddlers – get a copy for you and your little one so you can color together!
Coloring pencils – these are my favourite and have been since I was a kid.
Crayons – these spark happy memories and are easy to find.
Crayola Coloring Pens – these are super pigmented and washable. They do, however, bleed through a little bit.
Brush Pens – these are dual ended with a brush tip at one end, and a fine-tip pen at the other end. This gives more of a wash of colour than an opaque result.
Piece of cardboard or cardstock – I place this behind the page I’m coloring to prevent any ink from bleeding onto the next page’s design.
I hope this encourages you to revisit coloring as a healthy pastime not only for your little ones, but for you to reconnect with your creativity, and help keep the stress at bay, too!
