Story Behind the Apex Quilt Block
Since these blocks are designed based on some of my shape drawing explorations, it’s not surprising that triangle motifs snuck their way in there! There’s something very appealing about the angles triangles create that are so captivating.
I particularly loved the symmetry and rotational play featured in the Apex block design.

Composition Play
The Apex quilt block is a fun one to play with. Things really come into play when you start incorporating the reverse piecing construction. That starts to add directional flow to your quilt composition.
Don’t forget to use the mini block designs in your Welcome Package to see what possibilities that present for you 😊 Sometimes it helps to be able to take a block and flip it around, that’s what the mini graphics are there to help you with!
Quilting Technique Featured
It’s back to those bias edges with the Apex block – ha! This time, I’ve got some templates to help you cut and line things up.
That said, you’ll still need to bring some accurate piecing as there’s only a wee bit of wiggle room.
But once you see your triangle line up, you won’t be able to resist shouting:
“Oh, yeah, I did it!”

Top Tips
Take your time when lining up your triangle points and bases. You’re still looking for that ¼” overlap to ensure everything lines up nicely.
Once you get it lined up, pop a pin in there so it doesn’t shift on you at the machine!

Caution
If you’re finding your templates shifting on you while you’re cutting, place a piece of washi tape along the bottom edge of the template. This will keep the template and your fabric stable while you cut your pieces out.
Sometimes it’s those simple tips that really make a difference 😉
Alternatively, you can also pick up these stickers to help your ruler grip your fabric.
