Sunday Stash – Mad About Patchwork

Happy Sunday my friends!! I hope you are enjoying some good quality quilting time!
It’s been awhile since I shared some fabric stash purchases
with you. And being the fabric lovers that we are, I thought we were due for
some textile goodness.
I have a few go-to fabric suppliers that I love to support
and Mad About Patchwork is one of them. My love for them is not new, you can read all about why I adore
the gang at MAP here.

And I know what you’re going to say. “But, Shannon, I thought you weren’t
planning on buying new fabric in 2017 and just working on using your stash?”. I
know, I know. But I had a few gift cards that were burning a hole in my wallet,
just begging to be used. Who am I to refuse them?!

In fact, it was perfect timing, as I have a special quilt I
am working on that needed a restock of a couple of Kona Solids – namely Robin Egg blue and Iron gray. I still have a good chunk of the Essex Linen in Flax on hand, but have a few projects in mind that I’ll be dipping into that stash
for and I was starting to worry that I would run out. I do love adding linen to
my quilts, it just adds another layer of texture that I can’t seem to get
enough of J

The light blue Essex Linen was on sale and I just couldn’t
resist; pretty linen on sale – yes please! No doubt I’ll be able to find a
project to use this gorgeous colour in.

While I was shopping away, I decided to peruse their Cotton+ Steel basics section.
It never disappoints and always has me wanting to buy up yards and yards of each
of the colours. Sadly, my gift card funds were rapidly dwindling and, since I
am trying to stick to working through my stash, I limited myself to these 4
colours: Sprinkle in Peaches,
Dottie in Grapes, XOXO in Plummy (which appears to be completely gone ☹),
and XOXO in Dandelion.

In all fairness, I am considering adding the Dandelion to the special project I am working on, so there is a (potential) use intended 😉 Oh, how we fabric lovers can justify our purchases!
I must be really drawn to XOXO in Plummy, as I already had a
yard in my stash from a previous purchase – oops! Ever do that?!
In any event, I’m slowly starting to build a stash of Cotton
+ Steel basics that I’m going to have to plan an epic project around. Let the
quilty brainstorming begin!!

Rounding out the happy mail parcel was some Soft and Stable for a bag that I’ve been wanting to make from the Handmade Style sewing book by Noodlehead.
It’s been on my to-make list since last year, sooo, I NEEEDED that!
I haven’t worked with this product before, it will be
interesting to see what structure it offers to the bag I plan on making. Now I just need to source some leather handles. Got any suggestions on great places to buy leather?

And since the gift cards were a birthday gift from last fall,
I figured no harm in throwing in a fun little notion too! Birthday gifts are
meant to include a little indulgence, no?!

I’ve been eyeing the Flatter Smoothing Spray in Fig by Soak Wash for
awhile. I like that it doesn’t have any starch in it (I don’t like the idea of
bugs being attracted to starch…) and is free of sulfates, silicone, SLS and
SLES. Good for the environment, will add a pretty smell to my sewing studio and
help get stubborn wrinkles out – it’s a win-win! Not a necessity, but just
watch, it will soon become a must have in my quilting tools arsenal 😉

Being located in Montreal, we are limited in our local quilt
shop options. Which is really sad considering Montreal used to be a textile
mecca. We still have a few good options, but I find myself buying online more
and more to satisfy my quilting cotton needs. Plus, I like being able to shop
in my PJs 😉 I’m always on the hunt for new places to
support, so do share any of your favs in the comments below 😊

Happy quilting my friends!
xo
Shannon

Very nice additions to your stash – I've also been shopping so totally fell off the "I'm sewing from my stash" wagon! You will love Flatter. It really works and my whole sewing room smells amazing when I use it.

Yes! I can't get over how potent the smell is! Even days later, I can still smell it when I use my ironing board. I love that!
