Sewcial Bee Sampler – Row 2 Roundup

I’ve sang it’s praise before and I will sing it again! The
Sewcial Bee Sampler is such a fun sew along. The community is beyond endearing – super supportive,

Even though I fell behind this round, you know you’re having
a quilty good time when it doesn’t feel like a chore to catch-up!

I’ve been fitting these little beauties in while working on
several quilt projects. A quick block in a different colourway is a great way
to break up long tasks…like basting!

I’m loving how these next five blocks are making a great
addition to my first Sewcial Bee Sampler row already created.

As I previously mentioned, I’ve got a couple of ideas for my border fabric, but have been holding off adding them until I get closer to the end. I’d been saving some Essex Linen in Flax for my borders, but decided to introduce some into the mix in this row.
Partly because one of the blocks is quite large and won’t need any borders and
partly because I just can’t seem to get enough of this fabric at the moment! It
just adds great texture and softness to any quilty project 😉

So, the roundup!

First block was The Seasons.
It was an easy block to piece and it was a fun one to think about fabric
options. I went with three different fabrics from Amy Sinibaldi’s Playground
line,
which is just stunning. And makes for some really pretty blocks too!

Then came Dove in the Windows such a pretty name, right?! And it also happens to be one of my favourites of
this row. I love the boldness of the block and I really like how my fabric
selection enhanced the quilt block design. Lots of different motifs going on in
this one, but I love how it all seems to play nicely together 😉

For Clay’s Choice  I decided to go really bold! I don’t normally gravitate towards really dark
fabrics, but I wanted the central pinwheel to really pop. And boy does it ever!
Still not sure who designed the floral fabric, but I love how it takes center
stage against the deep maroon.

Here’s where the linen came in and I just fell in love with
the Wedding Ring block. Playground is even sweeter paired with the linen. The texture provided
by the linen is a great combo with the silky softness of Art Gallery Fabrics (AGF). I
can see Essex Linen and AGF being an ongoing favourite combination!!!

Butterfly Crossing offers so many possibilities. I decided to add some coral linen as the backing
of my butterfly blocks instead of going with the beige linen background used in
the rest of the block. I was hoping this would help my butterflies pop even
more and add a little extra texture and colour. It’s not my favourite of the
bunch, but it looks good when combined with the other quilt blocks created to
date. Sometimes it’s not about the individual block but how it fits into the
overall project, right?!

We’ve still got a few rows to complete and I’m hoping I have
enough in my fabric stash to see her through. I’m really enjoying my quilting
fabric selection and would be so sad if I couldn’t eek out every last bit to
make it to the end.
