STORY BEHIND THE ETCHED DIAMOND QUILT
The Etched Diamond quilt was designed way back in 2017. I had been working on a collaboration and went into a designing frenzy. I love those designing zones and while I often only use 1 or 2 ideas from those brainstorming sessions, there’s often lots of seeds that are planted for future exploration.
This design was initially revisited in 2018 when she was accepted into the 2019 Quilter’s Planner. If you haven’t heard of the planner, it’s an organizer designed specifically with quilters in mind! Genius, right?! If you like planning not only your life but also all of your quilt projects in one area, then you might consider one for yourself!
I’ve been meaning to release her as a standalone pattern with additional sizes, but other patterns needed my attention 😉 That is, until now!
Not only has she been expanded from the original throw size to include your larger bedding needs such as twin, queen and king beds, but I also snuck in an adorable crib size for your little ones.
What’s great about the Etched Diamond design is that it’s truly gender neutral. Use your colourways to play up the nursery décor or keep it muted with a more neutral palette of creams or grays.
COTTON COUTURE SOLIDS VERSION
This doesn’t happen often, but the original colours I designed the Etched Diamond quilt in on the computer I was able to find exact fabric matches. The fabric fairies were on my side!

COLOURPLAY
Quilts are always a fun opportunity to explore and have fun with colour, but the Etched Diamond quilt pattern is particularly fun.
Why?
Because of the way she’s been designed, you can make a subtle tweak of playing with Colour 4 and Colour 5 and it results in a totally different look. Bring the diamonds forward with a light fabric or send them to the back with a dark colour.
See it in action.
OPTION 1
Option 1 features Colour 4 with a light colour and Colour 5 with a dark. You can see how the light fabric highlights those diamond facets.
OPTION 2
While in option 2, you can see how the facets recede and the emphasis is more on the overall design when you reverse that combination:

Kacie has a way with colour combos and her Etched Diamond quilt is no exception! That gray background allows those oranges to really pop and make a statement!
If you need more home décor inspiration ideas, consider whipping up the Etched Diamond Pillow. The pattern includes instructions for both a square 18” pillow and a lumbar style that’s 23”x15”. Both add a bold design element to your home. You can read more about the linen and denim versions I made here.
What’s fun is that the quilt may look complex, but the pattern is broken own into 4 easy to stitch blocks, making you look like a quilt piecing whiz!
Grab the Etched Diamond Quilt pattern and show off all your faceted sides.
Happy quilting!
