Mother’s Day is just around the corner (in 11 days to be exact!). Are you ready for it?!
Moms are the best. I thank my lucky stars on the regular that I have the mum that I do 😊
I’m thankful for all the love, care, and sacrifices she’s shown my brothers and I over the years. And while I don’t need Mother’s Day to remind me to celebrate her (that happens on the regular!), I do like to take this day as an opportunity to make my mum feel extra special.
There are so many directions you can go in to honour your mom and today I thought I’d share just a few ideas with you in case you need some inspiration to celebrate your mom this Mother’s Day!

FOR THE ARTIST
Nothing beats getting a new set of paints to play with!
I’ve been dabbling with watercolours these last few years and love *this set and this *paper. I even picked up this *painting book to help me with the basics.
FOR THE BOOK LOVER
My house growing up was filled with books. Not just filled but overtaken – ha! My mum is a voracious reader, which is to be expected given she was an English teacher 😉
Books, like fabric, tend to be highly personal. What I like might not be what you like to read. To keep things safe, I love gifting a *subscription to audiobooks. Especially with the summer riiiight around the corner, sitting outside while enjoying listening to a good book is just bliss. I tried this out for the first time while ‘reading’ *Untamed and it was glorious to be sitting out in nature, watching the birds all while listening to a good book.
FOR THE COFFEE/ TEA LOVER
Hot beverages and creative activities seem to go hand in hand!
Make your mom a custom quilted mug rug to brighten her coffee break 😉
I also found some cute mugs to fit every theme for the:
FOR THE FOODIE
If the last few years has taught me anything it’s that spending time with loved ones face to face is an opportunity to celebrate and prioritize. Since my mum lives quite a distance from me, I don’t get to see her on the regular. We make up for this with lots of phone calls, texts, and photos, but it’s still not quite the same as being together in person.
Brunch is a great option that isn’t too fussy and puts the spotlight on being with your mom.
Here’s what I’d turn to if my mum was in town:
- Half baked Harvest’s Pull Apart French Toast Bake. You can make it the night before and then bake it in the morning. Add in some bacon and fresh berries. Easy peasy!
- I’ve loved Deb for the longest time and this classic How to Host Brunch (and Still Sleep In) plan by Smitten Kitchen is just one of the reasons why I love her!
Don’t forget to add a fun quilted table runner (block pattern available here) to your brunch table!
FOR THE GARDENING LOVER
With my mum the conversation is either me sharing about what fabrics I’m currently stitching with, or my mum is sharing what colour bulbs she’s been buying/ planting/ pruning 😊
She’s currently on a dahlia kick and so I picked up this *fresh new version by Floret Farm’s for her at Christmas.
If my mum wasn’t so specific about what she wants in her garden, I would totally pull together a fun gift basket featuring this cool *portable storage bin, *seeds and *gloves (which I love using for machine quilting!) and garden stakes. Just some essentials that are always good to have on hand.
FOR THE GARMENT SEWER
You might have noticed I’m on a me-made fashion kick with the quilted coats I’ve been making! This has spurred me to finally take the plunge and pick-up a *serger – whaaaa?!
It’s been on my wish list for years now, but I just wasn’t sure whether I would actually use the machine.
If you’ve noticed your mom has been dipping into stitching her own garments, surprise her with a serger to level up the finishing on her handmade makes 😊
Or, if you’re more into garment sewing, then consider making your mom something to wear. That would no doubt warm her heart every time she wore your item!
A *fabric gift card is always a great gift too!
FOR THE HAND STITCHER
Slowing down and getting to sneak in some quiet hand stitching is such a glorious way to unwind and be creative.
This *Back to Basics 12wt thread collection in all these inspiring colours would be a perfect addition to any hand sewers thread repertoire.
Don’t forget to stock up on some *needles too!
FOR THE QUILTER
My husband bought me some quilting notions for Christmas and it’s the first time I’ve had to say to him “just like I don’t buy you computer stuff, maybe you shouldn’t buy me quilting stuff” – ha!
We say that one another not to discourage us being thoughtful, it’s more that I know exactly what I want when it comes to quilting notions, better than he could.
I’m of the school of thought that getting a gift card to buy quilty stuff is the best! It means excitement knowing I have money to spend on fun stuff and then I actually get to go shopping for said fun stuff! It’s a win-win.
Treat your mom to the gift of choice by picking up a gift card in the shop.
