WHAT IS THE 30 DAYS OF IMPROV QUILT ALONG?
The 30 Days of Improv Quilt Along is a free challenge hosted by Amanda of @broadclothstudio and me @shannonfraserdesigns to help guide you through your improv quilting journey. Whether you’ve tried improv before or whether this is your first, we’ve got you!
HOW DOES THE IMPROV QAL WORK?
The challenge kicks off with a week of prep on July 24th: we’ll be sharing our insights on fabric selection and talking about getting into the improv mindset. Starting July 31st, we’ll be sending out weekly emails every Sunday, highlighting the shape of the week and providing daily prompts to explore the shape without a pattern.
Plus, did I mention there are fun weekly prizes to be won?!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE QAL?
Anyone who is interested in learning more about improv quilting and wants a little guidance along the way.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN?
Here’s everything you’ll need to participate in the 30 Days of Improv QAL.
First up is an email address!
Why?
Because all of the details for the challenge will be sent every Sunday by email. Anyone who has signed up for the challenge will automatically receive the weekly emails. The weekly newsletters will outline the shape that’s the focus for the given week’s challenge. There are also lots of fun tips and tricks we like to sneak in there too 😉 Even if you join a little later, you’ll still be able to access the previous week’s challenges as the links will be included at the bottom of each weekly newsletter.
IMPORTANT – even If you signed up for the challenge last year, you’ll still need to sign up for the 2022 challenge.
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
That covers the challenge details, but what about materials?
The fabric requirements will be captured in the July 24 kick-off email, along with lots of tips on how to select fabrics for an improv quilt. Amanda and I both share examples of how we came to our own fabric pulls too!

Good morning, just barely, from the west coast! If we can’t be on for the Zoom today, will we be able to view it later?
