Introducing the Mouse Trap BOM Quilt Pattern
In case this is the first you’re hearing about the Mouse Trap quilt pattern, then allow me to give you a quick introduction!
The Mouse Trap quilt is designed as a modern skill builder to help encourage you to explore different quilting techniques.
Remember the board game Mouse Trap? Where you had to successfully navigate through a series of ‘mouse traps’ to win the game. That’s the inspiration behind this modern quilt pattern!
The Mouse Trap quilt is made up of 12 unique modern quilt blocks that focus on different geometric shapes. The fun is playing with those shapes to create new abstract ‘mouse trap’ layouts.

New Composition Challenge
For an added challenge, the pattern includes several quilt layouts to get your creative ideas flowing when it comes to your quilt composition! There’s even the option to ‘design your own’ using the mini-quilt block graphics included in the Welcome Package!

What Are Acrylic Rulers and Why Are They Important?
Acrylic rulers are quilt templates that are laser cut from 1/8” thick acrylic sheets. They’re a super handy and essential tool in quilting, that helps you achieve accuracy and ease in cutting your fabric pieces.
Specialized for the Mouse Trap Quilt
The Mouse Trap Ruler Set is designed specifically for the Mouse Trap BOM Quilt Pattern. There’re several quilt block patterns that require templates to achieve the block layout, the Mouse Trap Acrylic Rulers make it easier to create precise, uniform pieces for this particular quilt pattern.
Benefits of Using Acrylic Rulers
While the Mouse Trap BOM Quilt Pattern includes paper templates, working with paper can be a little more challenging (but totally doable, as I made most of my Mouse Trap quilts before getting my set of rulers 😉).

The key advantages of working with acrylic rulers include:
- Durability – they’re more durable than paper templates, making it easier for you to reuse the rulers over and over again without impacting the accuracy of the template (you tend to trim a little of the paper templates every time you use them).
- Clarity – where are my fussy cutters at? Acrylic rulers allow you to see through the ruler so that you can position the template to highlight certain features of your fabric (aka fussy cut!). Plus, since the Mouse Trap Quilt Pattern encourages you to make the blocks in reversed layouts, the clear acrylic rulers will make it easy to flip the templates around for easy and accurate cutting!
- Precision – since acrylic rulers are laser cut by a machine; they give you better precision compared to printed templates. Plus, the weight of the ruler ensures that your fabric is smoothed out beneath it, leading to a more precise cut, especially for intricate or geometric blocks like Mouse Trap.

Overview of the New Acrylic Ruler Set
What’s included in the set?
The Mouse Trap Acrylic Ruler set includes one of every template featured in the Mouse Trap Quilt Pattern. The following 8 quilt blocks require templates to stitch them up:
- Rainbow
- Sticks
- Apex
- Half-Moons versions 1 and 2
- Arrow
- Split Moon
- Intercept
There are a total of 19 rulers included in the Mouse Trap Acrylic Ruler set (some of the blocks require multiple templates 😉).
The rulers will help you get the correct angles and curves required to piece your Mouse Trap quilt blocks with ease and precision.

How the Rulers Improve the Quilting Experience
You know I’m quite selective about the notions and tools I bring into the studio, they need to have a direct improvement on my quilting results and enjoyment 😊 Here’s how the rulers improve your quilting experience:
- Increased Accuracy – this is one of the biggest benefits of working with acrylic rulers. They take the guesswork out of wondering if you printed your templates at the correct scale and ensure you cut the same sized piece every single time (whether it’s your first time using them or 100th!).
- Time-saving – there’s a little more fiddling required to cut your fabric pieces using paper templates. For example, paper templates tend to shift on you, requiring that you stabilize the template. You can skip that with acrylic rulers and just get cutting right away!
- Beginner-friendly – the templates are designed to help quilters of all levels, from beginner to advanced, achieve professional results.
