July 20, 2023 by Shannon 2 Comments

I'm a guest on the Quilter on Fire Podcast! Tune in to learn more about my creative journey, what my design process is, why I love quilting and where I'm heading next! #podcast #quilters #creativecommunity

I’m so excited to share that I was a guest on the Quilter on Fire podcast!

If you’ve never heard of the Quilter on Fire, it’s a podcast hosted by Brandy Maslowski, where she welcomes guests for insightful conversations about quilting and fiber art to discover their stories and what brings them joy.

All things that I love and focus on too, which is why I was so thrilled to be invited to participate.

Hearing how other creatives got started has always been an inspiration to me. I love hearing about what got them curious and led them to focus on the medium(s) they selected.

Tune into Episode 123 here!

What we talked about on the Quilter on Fire Podcast

Having been on my own creative adventures for the past 8+ years, I know that things evolve, and interests change. These are some of the topics Brandy and I talk about in my episode.

My creative journey

You know my path to creativity hasn’t been straightforward or expected, and a common theme that keeps popping up for me is to ‘stay open’, especially when I’ve discounted something 😉

How I’ve used quilting to help myself heal

In the episode, I share more about how my creative journey started and what my practice means to me. I also touch on the topic of how I used quilting to help me heal after the loss of our daughter, and how the act of quilting can help you tune into your emotions and help you reflect on how you’re feeling.

My design process

We also talk a little bit about my pattern design process, which was a fun topic to share with you. I’m always fascinated to understand where the inspiration for things stems from!

Some of the patterns we talked about were the very first quilt pattern I released and how that came about, as well as Modern Aztec as it’s one of my most popular quilt patterns, along with the Etched Diamond Quilt x Hovea Coat Pattern Extension!

We even touched on my most pinned quilt – the Shattered Star Quilt.

Find out what people’s first reaction was to the Cloud Surfing Quilt and what decisions I made following that feedback 😊

What’s coming next

I’m so excited to officially share that I’ll be hosting the Little Forest Block of the Month Quilt Along in 2024. I’ll be sharing more details with you soon, but it was fun to let the cat out of the bag!
