When I first designed the Little Forest quilt, my goal wasn’t simply to create a collection of tree blocks.
I wanted to create a project that would help quilters explore a variety of techniques in a supportive, approachable way.
Learning new quilting skills can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. One tutorial teaches curves. Another teaches appliqué. A third covers foundation paper piecing. Before long, it can feel difficult to know where to start or what to learn next.
The Little Forest Quilt Course brings those techniques together into one guided project, allowing you to build confidence one block at a time.
Whether you’re looking to expand your quilting skills or simply want a joyful project to work through, here’s a closer look at everything you’ll learn along the way.

Why Little Forest Is Different
Rather than focusing on mastering a single technique, Little Forest is designed to help you explore a variety of methods so you can discover what you enjoy.
Each tree introduces something new.
Some blocks focus on precision piecing. Others introduce appliqué, curves, or foundation paper piecing. As you move through the quilt, you’ll gradually build confidence while creating a modern forest filled with personality.
The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is exploration, growth, and learning through making.

Skill #1: Building Accuracy Through Small Piecing
Many of the blocks include smaller units that help you develop accuracy and consistency.
You’ll learn:
- Matching seams
- Maintaining an accurate seam allowance
- Improving precision through repetition
- Pressing for better results
These foundational skills carry over into virtually every quilt you’ll make in the future.
